UGGs Australia
Sheepskin boots were being stitched for years on the beaches
of Australia and New Zeeland before they were introduced to America.
The person who made them famous was Brian Smith, a tenacious,
intuitive young Australian surfer who had the courage to bring
them to the United States.
It was indeed an act
of courage, as his first attempt in 1978 was not a successful
one. He came from Australia with a few pairs of sheepskin boots
and tried his luck on the streets of New York. Despite his confidence
and optimism, Brian Smith had to return home the way he left.
However, Smith believed too much in his breakthrough to just let
it go after one failure. His next try was the Californian surf
market and he proved himself more intuitive this time, as there
were already some surfers selling similar footwear from his native
place. Business was going so well, that Smith met his new home.
The man never had to search for other markets as fame started
to precede him.
Brian Smith's debut
was outstanding: 48 pairs sold to 5 accounts in his first season
only. His enterprising spirit helped him not only sell UGG Australia
sheepskin boots but also create a footwear brand compulsory for
all surfers.
